Active Language Learning
Active learning means putting yourself in situations where you need to actively use and practise the language in everyday situations. In my lessons I use all kinds of language games, roleplays and songs. Not only is active learning fun, it is also highly effective.
Learning Dutch with a personal touch
Anouk van der Linde
I live in Alphen aan den Rijn, a town situated in a rural area, the so-called "Green Heart" of the Netherlands. I am married and I have two children. My hobbies are reading, hockey, watching films and walking our dog George.
I studied English Literature and Linguistics at Leiden University. After my graduation I worked for a publishing firm for a couple of years and I was an English teacher at various secondary schools. Having worked abroad as an English teacher in Ankara, Turkey I can relate to my students who are sometimes struggling to learn Dutch. You can get by speaking English in most countries, but you will feel more at home in a foreign country when you learn the native language.
Since 2011 I have worked as a certified teacher of Dutch as a second language (NT2) and I have been teaching students preparing for the Dutch civic integration exam, expats and students at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As a teacher I come into contact with people from a variety of cultures. Each course and each student differs. Teaching people Dutch and learning from people with a different background at the same time makes my job very interesting and rewarding.
from Beginner to Advanced (C1) level
Learning a new language takes time and effort. Motivation is one of the key factors for successful language learning. If you enjoy language learning, you will make faster progress. An experienced and expert teacher will help you to achieve your desired language level. Through my personal and active lessons you will enjoy language learning.
Before we start I will have an intake interview to assess your language level and to discuss your learning goals. The advantage of private lessons is that you can learn at your own pace and the programme will be completely tailor-made to meet your personal wishes.
Adult learners usually have a limited amount of time to learn a language. That’s why during the intake we will discuss how to achieve maximum results in a short period of time. Being an experienced teacher I can make a good selection based on the communicative situations that are relevant to you.
in Alphen aan den Rijn on Saturdays
The course on Saturday is intended for beginners. In 11 lessons you will be able to use Dutch actively in everyday situations. You will not only learn the basics of the Dutch language, but you will also learn some interesting things about Dutch culture.
During class we will focus on speaking. In a small group of maximum 10 students you will have lots of opportunity to practise speaking. Instead of listening to the teacher you will do lots of talking.
We will use the book Start.nl, Dutch for beginners. You are expected to prepare each lesson with the digital part of the course material. During the lesson you can practise and after the lesson you can do more exercises on the website to assimilate what you have learnt. In order to get the most out of the course I recommend 2-3 hours self-study per lesson.
LESSONS BY SKYPE
If you don’t have the time to attend a course, Skype lessons are ideal. Also if you travel abroad a lot, Skype lessons offer you maximum flexibility.
Skype-lessons are well-suited for practising speaking and listening skills. It is also possible to improve your writing skills. One-to-one lessons are highly focused on achieving your needs and learning goals.
Before you decide to register I offer a free intake. In this session we will discuss your learning goals and availability. If you already know some Dutch I will also assess your level of Dutch.
DUTCH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES
More and more employers are realizing that a language course is not a luxury, but that a good command of a language is essential for communication at the workplace.
Effective communication at the workplace will lead to fewer mistakes being made and it will increase the quality and productivity. Moreover, if all colleagues can speak Dutch it will also strengthen the team spirit.
I have taught in-company courses for order pickers of a large distribution centre and for employees in the agricultural sector.

What people say
Anouk was teaching me dutch in A1-A2 intermediate level. I really liked to go to the classes because she was always well prepared. We had a lot of interactive games, and beside the topics we had to discuss, she always came up with up to date topics and practical informations about The Netherlands. I find it a very efficient teaching method, as it is very motivating to learn from a nice person who makes the lesson as colorful as possible! 🙂 I hope we meet again sometime, and thank you a lot!
